Larry Stornetta Dairy Riverbank Stabilization Project
Garcia River
Point Arena, California
In 1998 BioEngineering Associates, Inc. stabilized and revegetated 750 feet of riverbank on the Garcia River at the Larry Stornetta Farm. A series of live willow siltation baffles were constructed along the project reach to stabilize the riverbank and trap sediment carried downstream during high flows.
Winter 1995: A big winter storm stripped away hundreds of feet of farmland along 750 feet of the farm’s property.
In 1998, the eroding bank was sloped back to construct a series of live willow siltation baffles. The baffle trenches were excavated and filled with live willow branches.
